Weekend Away at Longboat Key Club

My hubby and I are always so busy that we are always looking for ways to sneak away with the family and enjoy some much-deserved beach time! Breathing in the salty air and feeling the sand in your toes has a therapeutic feeling that can recharge you in ways you can’t imagine.
Living outside of Orlando, we have access to so many weekend getaway spots. We are so lucky to have some of the most beautiful beach towns within a short drive. When searching for the perfect weekend spot for Father’s Day, I knew we wanted to try somewhere new. A girlfriend suggested Longboat Key Club and after looking at the website, I was sold.
When we pulled through the gate to the private entrance of the Longboat Key Club, we were greeted with plush landscaping, a friendly staff and the most beautiful views of blue and green water. We planned to arrive early so our room wasn’t ready yet, but that didn’t stop us from heading right down to the beach and the pool. The front desk gave us a temporary card so we could take advantage of all the amenities while we waited for our room to be ready.
Once making it down to the beach, we were escorted to our private beach chairs complete with the cutest blue and white umbrellas. We were able to order food and drinks and spent the rest of the day building sandcastles and diving for pool toys while sipping on Strawberry Daiquiris and Piña Coladas. The resort is extremely family-friendly and the kids loved meeting new friends at the pool and searching for seashells on the beach. If we would have stayed longer, the resort also has a supervised children’s program and a babysitting service.
Once our room was ready we headed upstairs to unpack and get ready for dinner. When traveling with the kids I always look for a room that has a pull-out couch or an additional living space so that we can enjoy some time to talk after the kids go to bed. This room was perfect because the kids could sleep on the pull-out while we enjoyed the huge balcony overlooking the pool and beach! We also had a full kitchen and huge bathroom! After fully making ourselves comfortable in the huge room, we quickly got ready for dinner and headed to the on-site Italian restaurant, Portofino.
Portofino is located on the marina side of the resort and had a menu full of delicious pasta dishes and flatbreads. The kids loved running around on the docks and looking at the gorgeous sailboats docked up and down the bay. My in-laws are Italian and hard to please, and they loved everything we tried! And watching the gorgeous sunset while sipping on a crisp rosé didn’t hurt.
After dinner we headed back to the room and enjoyed a long night’s sleep listening to the waves crash against the shore.
The next morning we woke up and immediately ordered room service. We enjoyed a huge breakfast outside on our balcony and planned our day. We gobbled down our bacon, pancakes and eggs and headed back downstairs for another day full of sun and sand.
We were only at the resort for two days but we were able to fit in so much great family time. We loved everything about Longboat Key Club and can’t wait to visit again soon! If you are lucky enough to stay longer, the resort has beautiful golf courses, tennis courts, a full-service spa and multiple on-site restaurants.
If you have any questions about the resort and our experience there, please let me know! Have a great day and see you next time!
