Cheap Date Night Ideas

My husband and I are busy! It feels like we are always headed in different directions and with me working from home now, we have to make an effort to carve out “us” time during the week.  One of the biggest changes we have made the past year is scheduling a date night once a week. We have a couple of hours to talk (without kids screaming over us or screaming “mommy” and “daddy” every 2.5 seconds) and enjoy each other’s company.

Whether you’ve been married for 50 years, you’re just starting a new relationship, or if you are still on the hunt for Mr. or Mrs. Right, everybody loves date night! When we are busy with work, family, and other responsibilities, planning a good date is always something to look forward to. If you have children you know that a night away from your kiddos is essential to not only maintaining your sanity but keeping the romance alive. If you’re just starting to date, a night out is an opportunity to get to know someone’s personality and learn more about each other. No matter what stage of a relationship you’re in, a good date is always the right idea.

So we’re all in agreement that date night is a good thing, but sometimes making time for each other can come with a cost. When it comes to a night out, dinner, drinks, and any other activities can start to add up. If you want to keep the romance alive without worrying about cost, I’ve put together some fun and unique date night ideas that are not only budget-friendly but will keep your love life interesting.

Volunteer at an Animal Shelter

Animal shelters always need volunteers to play with and care for dogs and cats. Spending time with an animal is a calming experience, and you might learn something new about your date, or even yourself. If you don’t have a pet, it’s the perfect opportunity to learn more animals and if a furry companion is right for you. Plus whether you’ve been with your partner forever, or are just getting to know them, spending time with animals is guaranteed to provide a few laughs, and will give you plenty of new things to talk about.

Go for a Bike Ride

While not the traditional date night idea, going for a bike ride can be a fun physical way to spend time together. There are thousands of bike trails across the country and no two are the same. Find one you and your partner will enjoy, pack a small meal and a bottle of wine, and have a completely unique experience. Check out the routes near you to select a ride you’ll both enjoy.

Check Out Your Local Library

Hear me out, libraries aren’t just books anymore. Many local libraries host dozens of events a week, and it’s all free. While there are more traditional events like book club and movie nights, many libraries also use events to showcase local activities and attractions. Art classes, wine tastings, cooking classes, concerts, and guest speakers are just some of the activities that you might find at your local library. Check out your local library’s event calendar, you might just be surprised!

Get Down with the Passport Program

Many cities participate in the drinks and dining passport program. The Dining Passport features buy one get one entrée deals at 50+ local restaurants. The Drinks Passport features BOGO drink deals; there is also a coffee edition featuring local coffee shops. The Passport Program is a great way to explore your city, find new restaurants, and save a ton of cash. Check and see if your city participates!

Visit a Local Art Gallery

Checking out art galleries in your area can be a seriously fun date night. It’s like an ever-evolving local museum and gives you the chance to view and support local art and artists. Viewing art can almost always spark lively conversation, and is a chance to learn something new about your date. Often times, when an art gallery is hosting an event or featuring a new artist, they will serve cocktails, wine, and hors-d’oeuvres to those in attendance at no cost. Scope out the galleries in your area for a free and unique date night.

Play in an Arcade

Arcades aren’t just for pre-teens, and if you go after 7:00 PM chances are you’ll have the place to yourself. Play a little Skeeball, shoot some hoops, or maybe fight it out in a game of PacMan. Playing games with or against each other gives you a chance to be flirty and competitive, plus you’ll have a ton of laughs. For just a handful of change, you’re sure to have a great time.

No matter who you are, mixing up your date night routine can be great for a relationship. Plus if you can save a little money in the process, all the better! Do you have any favorite low-cost date night ideas? I’d love to hear them! Next time you’re struggling for some new, budget-friendly plans, try one of these activities for a guaranteed good time!
