Some of my fondest childhood memories revolved around Disney and the wonderful memories we shared as a family at the happiest place on earth. I am so fortunate that I can share those same special memories with my own children. Brayden and Hayes have developed their own special bond with the timeless characters that remain such a big part of my life, still to this day.
As most of you know, my daughter has had some medical challenges in her life and we have spent many days and nights homebound and in the hospital. During this time, movies provided her with the hope and laughter she needed, specifically, Disney’s The Little Mermaid. So much so that after her last open heart surgery, the nurses and my sister surprised her by dressing up as Ariel after she woke up.
When I heard that Disney’s The Little Mermaid was releasing a 30th Anniversary Edition of the beloved classic, I knew that called for a special mommy and daughter day filled with fun, snacks and a movie date. I couldn’t wait to share my excitement for the release and surprise Brayden with some special items to celebrate the big day.
As soon as the movie was released, I hopped over to my Walmart and picked up a copy of the 30th Anniversary Edition of Disney’s The Little Mermaid along with the cutest Swimming Princess Ariel doll and The Little Mermaid Rashguard. Brayden was SO excited to swim with her new rashguard and doll that she immediately jumped in the pool! While she was splashing around, I was able to throw together a quick and easy trail mix for our movie date.
I picked up these mixed nuts and chocolate pieces at Walmart and I popped some popcorn in my Instant Pot.
After melting the chocolate in the microwave, I mixed in a couple drops of purple and blue food coloring. I then drizzled the melted chocolate on top of the popcorn and let it harden for about 5 minutes. I stirred in the mixed nuts and our mermaid trail mix was good to go! It was the perfect snack for our movie night and it only took a few minutes to put together!
I couldn’t wait to celebrate the World’s most iconic mermaid with my most iconic superstar. Ariel’s zest for life and her adventurous and curious personality are exactly the qualities I want for Brayden. We laughed and cuddled and had the most amazing mommy and daughter day. Sharing this movie with her that was (and still is) so special to me, was truly magical.
