smoothie love

For some reason my daughter hates fruit. She will eat the heck out of some veggies, but won’t touch a blueberry to save her life.  My husband and I have tried everything and the only thing she will touch is watermelon.

One day I decided to try and give her some of my morning smoothie and bam – within 2 minutes – the girl downed a cup of fruit.

We make smoothies with whatever we have on hand, but here is one of our faves!  This is also a perfect snack during those hot summer months when you need to throw in some extra hydration wherever you can. What kind of smoothies do you and your kids enjoy?

{basic berry smoothie}

1/2 cup frozen blueberries (we like to use frozen fruit so that we don’t have to add ice)

1/2 cup frozen raspberries

3 slices of frozen apple (we slice and then freeze)

1 large handful of spinach

8 oz of organic apple juice (to add a little sweetness)

6 oz of organic low-fat milk (to add protein – can also use greek yogurt)

* Add all of the ingredients in the blender in the order listed and blend until smooth.  You can always add additional juice or milk if you would like your smoothie thinner and easier for little mouths.  This recipe provides enough for my daughter and I each to enjoy a smoothie 🙂
